Wide Open Tees Facebook Photo Contest #8 Winner: OLD

Barrett is the winner of our most recent photo contest: Old! What a breathtaking photo, Barrett! We hope you enjoy your photography shirt from Wide Open Tees!

About the Photography and Photographer:

This photo was shot in Death Valley National Park in California. I shot this using a Canon 5D Mark II with a 16-35L II lens. I set the camera up on a tripod and exposed the image for 30 seconds at 2.8 at ISO 3200. 30 seconds was the most I could get out of it before I started seeing noticeable star blur. The lights in the background are Las Vegas.

Wide Open Tees Photography Shirts Photo Contest #9: MIKSANG

Our 9th photo contest has come to an end! Congratulations to Barrett for this amazing Miksang photograph:

About the Photographer and Photograph:

I shot this photo at a wildlife reserve in Glen Rose Texas. I sat in the back of a truck so it allowed me to get eye level with many of the animals, including this emu. I shot it with a 70-300L lens on a Canon 5D Mark II. My main goal was to make sure I got the eye in focus but I just took a bunch of photos in rapid succession, hoping to get an interesting pose out of the animal.

This EXIF data is:
ISO 400
f/5.0
1/1000 shutter
166mm

You can view his portfolio here through the links below:

What an absolutely beautiful photo, Barrett! We love the simplicity, as Miksang should highlight. The curiosity in the emu’s face really sells the photograph! The theme isn’t always the easiest for photographers to understand and capture, but you did a perfect job with this great photograph! Congrats again, Barrett, and we hope you enjoy your photography shirt from Wide Open Tees!

Wide Open Tees Facebook Photo Contest #7 Winner: Silhouette

Lai Jun Wei is the winner of our most recent photo contest: Silhouette! Congratulations and we hope you enjoy your photography shirt from Wide Open Tees!

About the Photography and Photographer:

Canon 1D Mk3, 1/125, f/4, ISO1000

I shot this photo during one of the half-marathons held in Singapore. I had to walk a good distance, which included a steep climb up the Benjamin Sheares Bridge before I came to this sweet spot with the Singapore Flyer in the background. As most of the elite competitors had passed me when the sun came out, I decided to focus on the sunrise and make take a silhouette shot of the stragglers instead. All the effort I put in just to get this one shot… Totally worth it.

I don’t really have a site where I post my photos. But I shoot regularly for a local sports news site and my photos can be found here: http://redsports.sg/author/junwei/

Everything about this photograph is beautiful: the colors, the focus, the composition! Great job, Jun Wei!

Wide Open Tees Photography Shirts Photo Contest #8: WEATHER

Our 8th contest has crowned a winner! Congratulations to Kevan for this wonderfully timed photo! Beautiful work, Kevan!

About the Photographer and Photograph:

This was all about being at a dry place, at a wet time. We all know..too often it’s fool’s luck who plays with the success of our image. This is the Tappan Zee bridge that spans the Hudson river in NY, about 40 miles north of Manhattan. I don’t recall why I was at that particular location, I live no where near it, but I can tell you the river frequently tosses a photographer an excellent photo opportunity bone.

This image was taken using my little Canon G9. Speaking of fool’s luck, thank God small sensors have open DOF, as my camera settings were really off. No, I ain’t tellin’! LOL!

All the best,
Kevan

Wide Open Tees Photography Shirts Photo Contest #7: HOLIDAYS

Our 8th contest has crowned a winner! Congratulations to Shorty for this beautifully holiday photo!

About the Photographer and Photograph:

Canon 40D, Sigma 17-50 2.8 hsm os @21mm, iso400, f2.8, 1/20 sec, 3 shot pano

A mate and his wife dropped in and said they were going to go see the houses around Canberra lit up for Xmas and wanted to know if i wanted to grab my camera and join them,10 seconds later we were on our way. There were some great displays but when we got to Kambah it was the stand out,so i started snapping staight away.As we were leaving the owner of the house started to chat to me about my camera and explained that the local paper was there the previous day taking photos and he had asked if he could have some copies for his website but they said no.So he asked if i could give him some of mine (he raises money for a childrens charity with his display so i had to say yes),after getting home and looking at my photos i thought i could do better so i went out the next night and took quite a lot of photos including some shots to merge to panos and gave them to him the next day.Looks like kahma works as now i have won this comp:)

What a wonderful photo, Shorty. We love the contrast and the story behind it. The panorama makes it absolutely perfect. We love how your eye wanders to every pixel in the photo. Congrats, and we hope you enjoy your photography shirt from Wide Open Tees!

Wide Open Tees Photography Shirts Photo Contest #7: ABSTRACT

Our 7th contest has crowned a winner! Congratulations to Chris for this beautiful photo!

About the Photographer and Photograph:

Photographer: Chris Arnet
Gear: Canon 60D, Rokinon 8mm. Handheld @ 1/400th, f/9, ISO 100

I took this image November 24th during an outing to the aquarium. This is the new (almost complete) landmark Trinity bridge in Dallas, Tx. I wasn’t happy with the images I got from the ground, so I climbed up the construction work to get on top. This set of images is priceless to me, because I was able to photograph the beautiful architecture of this bridge at it’s completion before it was open to the public, so I was able to shoot with no restrictions, and no vehicles in the images. I came away with photographs of a landmark nobody again will be able to capture now that the bridge is opened, and it was a great self reminder to think outside of the box. Sometimes a little risk can lead to a lot of reward.

You can see more of Chris’ work here: www.flickr.com/orangeimaging or like his Facebook at www.facebook.com/orangeimaging! Tons of spectacular photos there!

Wow, Chris! Photographers don’t get enough credit sometimes when it comes to great photographs. Lots of people see a picture and assume “good camera.” Your scenario helps others see how much work photographers go though to get that perfect photograph…and what a perfect photograph this is! Congrats Chris, and we hope you enjoy your photography shirt from Wide Open Tees!
